The Long Island Methodist Episcopal Church was erected in 1880 on land donated by Eliza J. and Charles Woodman. At that time, Leavitt Street was a footpath and was called Meeting House Road. Chebeague and Long Island shared pastors until 1893. Long Island Methodist Episcopal Church changed its name to Evergreen United Methodist church between the years of 1966 and 1968.
